About this course

The RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shore based course is an advanced navigation course for those who wish to take the RYA Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence either Coastal or Offshore. We assume that you are already qualified as an RYA Day Skipper (or equivalent). There is some time set aside for revision of subjects covered in the Day Skipper course though you should arrive with a good understanding of the essentials.

On this course you will cover more complex aspects of advanced navigation techniques including secondary port tidal calculations, computation rates, position fixing, navigation in restricted visibility, time zones, passage planning and the capabilities and limitations of electronic navigation.

This course assumes that you are a qualified RYA Day Skipper or have equivalent experience.

We offer our shore based courses within a ‘study block’. Study blocks are several days. This is to give students the maximum flexibility to you in how to take the course.

Within a Study block you choose one of:

  1. Forty hours in the classroom.(5 days)
  2. Forty hours in the classroom combined with the practical course. The full value of the shorebase scheme is only realised by applying the skills and knowledge learnt in a classroom to practical situations onboard a yacht.

Let’s book it!
